PHILADELPHIA · THE COMMUNITY NOTEBOOK

Cedar Park.

Cedar Park’s daily geography follows Baltimore Avenue, where trolleys and local storefronts pass its small namesake green. Residential side streets extend the experience beyond the commercial corridor, with larger park outings available nearby toward 51st Street.

More than a name on the map.

The triangle between 49th and 50th streets makes a useful starting point for understanding the neighborhood at street level. Follow Baltimore Avenue for its sequence of businesses, then turn onto a residential block before returning. Nearby Malcolm X Memorial Park adds a larger outdoor stop; it is a neighboring destination, rather than the park that gives Cedar Park its name.

THE EVERYDAY PICTURE

The streets. The rhythm. The practical details.

Architecture & atmosphere

Older porch-front homes, mature street trees and closely spaced shopfronts create a residential streetscape around the trolley corridor. The small triangular park contrasts with the longer, regular blocks beside it.

Getting around

The Baltimore Avenue trolley corridor links Cedar Park with University City and downtown. Check current SEPTA operations and the walk from your particular side street.

Make your visit count

Walk one stretch of Baltimore Avenue, then make a small loop along the side streets so the shops do not define your entire impression. Pause beside the trolley corridor to assess its sound and movement. Treat Malcolm X Park as a separate extension.

A QUESTION TO BRING WITH YOU

Would you prefer to begin beside Baltimore Avenue or on a quieter residential side street?
